woven; a record of touch

My name is Rachel Snack, and I am a weaver, educator and textile artist. I recently closed my business, Weaver House, to focus on my family, my art practice, and to make space for new projects.

Weaving is special because it’s inherently human— cloth is known through touch and exists in a transient cycle. Textiles remember, unintentionally and by design, leaving a thread between maker and loom (material evidence). The artworks I create bear witness, memorializing place and forming my own tactile language.

I am also inspired by other ways of recording: hand-painted weave drafts, vintage craft periodicals, handwoven baskets, the natural grid (collecting objects of landscape) and hand-stitched lettering.

You can view some of my woven work on my artist website here and follow me on instagram here.

“We touch things to assure ourselves of reality. We touch the objects of our love. We touch the things we form. Our tactile experiences are elemental.” — Anni Albers
